🔥 Air Fryers in Student Rooms: Not forbidden, but Use with Care
Air fryers are popular and can be convenient to use. However, they also come with some important responsibilities.
Maximum power consumption
Air fryers may only be used if they do not exceed the maximum wattage allowed in our house rules.
The building’s electrical installation has a limited capacity. If several tenants use high-power appliances at the same time – such as air fryers, hairdryers, mini ovens, microwaves, kettles, cooking plates or fans – it can overload the system and cause power cuts or damage to the installation. This is exactly why a maximum wattage limit exists.
Never leave an air fryer unattended
An air fryer is a heating appliance and must never be left running when you leave the room or while you are sleeping.
Last year, an unattended air fryer triggered the building’s fire alarm in the middle of the night, causing unnecessary disturbance for all residents.
Cooking smells
Air fryers, especially when used for frozen snacks and fried foods, can leave strong odours in a room.
In one case last year, the smell of heated fat remained in a studio for weeks after the tenant moved out, leading to complaints from the new tenant and requiring extra cleaning and ventilation.
Please remember
- Respect the maximum permitted wattage.
- Never leave the appliance unattended.
- Use it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep it away from flammable materials.
- Ventilate your room during and after use.
- Clean the appliance regularly.
Air fryers are not forbidden, however they are to be used safely, responsibly, and within the building’s electrical limits.
