Heating season & Utility follow-up in Your Studio
Heating season in Belgium
In Belgium, the heating season is generally considered to run from autumn through spring, with heating typically becoming necessary from around October, depending on the outdoor temperature and weather conditions. There is no fixed date on which heating should be switched on: colder weather in September may already require heating, while a mild October may not. The need for heating naturally increases from October onwards and is generally highest during the winter months. (Codex Vlaanderen)
During spring, heating requirements gradually decrease and on warmer or sunny days the heating can often remain switched off. (Vlaanderen.be)
What is a reasonable indoor temperature?
There is no single temperature that suits everyone, but the following provides a useful guideline:
| Situation | Indicative temperature |
|---|---|
| Study / living area | 19–20°C |
| Night / sleeping | 16–18°C |
| Short absence | around 16–18°C |
| Summer | Heating normally off |
The Flemish government recommends around 20°C for living and study areas and 16–18°C for bedrooms. Lowering the temperature by just 1°C can reduce heating consumption by approximately 7%. (Vlaanderen.be)
Your heating consumption can be monitored
Each studio has Techem metering equipment to register individual heating consumption.
The heating meter is located directly on the radiator. By regularly checking the meter, you can keep an eye on how your heating use changes depending on your habits and the season.
👉 Practical information about your stay
This can be useful if you want to become more aware of your consumption rather than waiting until the final utility calculation.
Keep track of your estimated costs
We also provide a Utility Cost Estimator to help you follow your estimated utility costs during your stay.
👉 OPEN THE UTILITY COST ESTIMATOR
Important: the Utility Cost Estimator is indicative only and is not binding. It does not constitute a final calculation or guarantee of the actual utility costs. Its purpose is to give you a practical tool to monitor your consumption and keep an eye on your estimated costs throughout your rental period.
Small changes in heating habits can make a noticeable difference over a full winter. Being aware of your consumption is therefore useful both for your comfort and for managing your budget.
