Cleaning and Maintaining Ventilation Grilles

Why is it important?
Ventilation grilles allow fresh air to enter and stale, humid air to leave your home. Dust and dirt can build up over time and reduce airflow. Regular cleaning helps keep the ventilation system working properly and supports a healthy indoor climate.

Who should clean it?

When should you clean the grilles?
Check your ventilation grilles regularly and clean them whenever you notice visible dust or dirt. As a general rule, cleaning them a few times a year is recommended. Grilles in kitchens, bathrooms and other areas where there is more moisture or dirt may need to be cleaned more often.

How should you clean them?

1. 1. Remove loose dust with a vacuum cleaner and a soft brush.

1. 1. If possible, carefully remove the grille. Do not force it if it is stuck.

1. 1. Clean the grille with a soft brush or damp cloth.

1. 1. If necessary, use a mild cleaning product.

1. 1. Make sure the grille is completely dry before putting it back.

1. 1. Check that all ventilation openings remain clear and unobstructed.

Important: Do not use abrasive cleaners, hard brushes or sharp objects. Be especially careful with grilles fitted with insect mesh, as the mesh can easily be damaged.

If the grille is damaged, deformed, badly rusted or cannot be cleaned properly, it may need to be replaced. Tenants should not modify or permanently remove ventilation grilles without permission from the landlord or property manager.
