🚽 How much toilet paper should you actually use?

As a rough guideline, around 3-5 sheets per wipe and a few wipes per bowel movement is generally plenty for most people. Of course, everyone is different, so use what you actually need.

A normal European toilet can handle ordinary amounts of toilet paper, but that doesn’t mean you need half a roll every time you go to the toilet.

If you need more than a few wipes, that’s when it’s a good idea to flush before continuing. In other words: don’t keep piling large amounts of paper into the toilet and then try to flush everything at once. Use some paper, flush, and continue if you still need more.

Using excessive amounts of toilet paper is unnecessary and wasteful, less environmentally friendly, and can increase the risk of blockages — while also requiring more water to flush it away.

So: use what you need, don’t waste it, and if you need significantly more than usual, flush in between. 🚽
